Gunpowder, Governments and Garters

For the benefit of those who don't know, this evening is a traditional British celebration night. Variously called Bonfire Night, Fireworks Night or Guy Fawkes Night the evening is devoted to pyrotechnic displays commemorating a foiled attempt to blow up Parliament by the said Mr Fawkes and his chums.

Though traditionally a quaint but repulsive festival of anti-catholic bigotry in which an effigy or "guy" is burned on a cheery open fire, nowadays most British citizens prefer to imagine themselves burning the current government and their accursed Parliament. While I'm on the subject of social history, let's take a look at some of the illustrations of Cheri Herouard published under his "nom de porn" Herric.
