Grime and Punishment

I understand that the 2011th year of the Gregorian calendar ends at midnight tonight. Meanwhile in Samoa they have crossed the dateline this week thus causing the 30th of December to not exist for them. I suspect that time, like money, marriage and patriotism, is a ruse devised by our ruling classes to keep us ignorant of reality. We can be certain that the coming year will bring the usual menu of war, catastrophe, atrocity, hypocricy and hysteria. We can be equally certain that the small sparks and slivers of human kindness and compassion will make it still worth bothering to carry on.
